No matter how large or small your fleet, benchmarking financial and operational performance against your true peers is important to be successful, even in the best of times. Coming off a few lean years in the trucking industry, it has become essential.

We believe best-in-class benchmarking should include the following elements:

• Timeliness. You shouldn't have to wait weeks or months after the data was collected to access it.
• Relevancy. Data from fleets which run very different operations than yours is useless. Your unique operational situation should be factored in.
• Accuracy. Poor records or poor data reporting can make the dataset very inaccurate. There needs to be a reliable, repeatable system for data collection.

Our Value

Our key value is in how we can quickly identify a fleet's unique cost sensitivities and margin growth opportunities. Starting with our base National Trucking Cost Index and National Trucking Profitability Index, we hone in on the factors which make a fleet more or less sensitive to costs and margins and weight them accordingly. This is a continuous process which is part of our benchmarking service.

Sector-Based Benchmarking

• Compares fleet performance to sector averages. Sectors are based on freight types and equipment types used in specific applications.
• Fleet size is factored in. We weight performance based on size categories to include the impact of scale.
• Operating area is factored in. This allows us to include the impact of higher operating costs in specific states/regions.
